Linda K. Metsger, MA

Director – Professional Development

Linda K. Metsger came to the University of Denver in 1997 to lead the Butler Institute for Families’ training and professional development. She brought with her extensive child welfare worker, supervisory, administrator, and training experience, having worked in Colorado social services for seventeen years—nine years as a youth services caseworker, six years as a supervisor in both youth services and child protection, and two years as a training supervisor.

Under Ms. Metsger’s direction, the professional development capacity of the Butler Institute has nearly tripled. Her areas of expertise include the development and training of competency-based curriculum; child welfare intake; safety, risk, and family assessment; adolescent and delinquent services; case planning with families; family reunification; effective permanency planning for children; and supervision.

Ms. Metsger manages large state and federal grants for the Butler Institute, ranging from single to multi-state contracts in the areas of professional development and organizational change.

Ms. Metsger is published in the area of juvenile delinquency and serves as adjunct faculty at the Graduate School of Social Work in the child welfare track.
