Training FAQs
We rarely cancel a day of training due to inclement/severe weather.
If you would like to check if your training has been cancelled, you can always call us at 303.871.2434 to find out. You may not reach an actual person on the other end of the phone, but if any of our training classes are canceled or delayed, the details will be on the voice mail message. If the voice mail you are hearing does not address the weather or any cancellations, then consider the training on.
If you are attending the New Worker or New Supervisor Training Academy at the Arapahoe County Community College - Parker Campus, then you can also call their main number at (303) 797.4222 to find out if they will be closed. If they close the Parker Campus for any reason, it will be stated when you call this number. They will also post any closings on their website at www.arapahoe.edu.
If the training is still being held, and you cannot make it due to the weather, then you will need to schedule a make-up day. To do so, please call us at 303.871.2434 or email shannon.bigner@du.edu.
We are not currently providing any foster/adoptive/kinship care training. Most of these courses are now offered by the Colorado State Foster Parent Association. Visit www.coloradocwts.com for a listing of currently offered training.
Please contact Linda.Metsger@du.edu for more information.
You MUST collect and turn-in all your itemized meal receipts and fill out a travel reimbursement form at your training in order to request reimbursement. Otherwise, you will need to ask for reimbursement from your county.
To check on a travel reimbursement request for Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) sponsored training, please contact CWTS Support at support@cdhsacademy.com or (800) 390-9619.
For other trainings, please contact us at 303.871.2434 or email shannon.bigner@du.edu.
We will typically provide a continental breakfast and possibly an afternoon snack during your training. Unless otherwise noted, you will need to provide your own lunch.
Check with your supervisor. Some counties require all caseworkers to complete this training, others only require or recommend certain workers to attend.
Maps to all training locations can be found on the Training Locations page.
If it is a Colorado Department of Human Services sponsored training, you can find the location by visiting http://www.coloradocwts.com/regional-training-centers.
If you qualify for lodging through the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS), and are willing to have a double room with a roommate, then your lodging cost is typically covered by the state.
If you qualify for lodging and would like a single room, then typically you will be charged a half-room rate. This rate varies depending on the hotel, but it usually will not exceed $50 per night. Call 303.871.2434 or email shannon.bigner@du.edu for any special arrangements or questions.
If you are attending a training sponsored by the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS), you may qualify for lodging. When you register online for a CDHS sponsored training at www.coloradocwts.com, there is an area that asks if you qualify for lodging and will give you information on how to determine if you qualify. If you do qualify, then we will arrange your lodging.
If you do qualify for lodging and fail to complete this portion online, you will not be given any lodging by default. We will gladly honor your request to share your room with a specific trainee, but please give us ample time to process your request. Special requests are most easily honored by completely filling out the lodging section when registering online. Please contact us if you require any special lodging arrangements by calling 303.871.2434 or emailing shannon.bigner@du.edu.
Please contact us as far in advance as possible (it must be before you get to the hotel) to request special lodging arrangements (such as a single room or to request a roommate) for your training. Call 303.871.2434 or email shannon.bigner@du.edu with any special arrangement requests and to find out if the hotel will need to charge you for these special arrangements.
A certificate is provided to trainees upon completion at each training. If you need a replacement certificate, please contact us by calling 303.871.2434 or emailing shannon.bigner@du.edu.
Workers should schedule training when they will not be required to be in court, and supervisors are strongly discouraged from calling workers out of training. But if you must miss part of a day of training, the trainer will arrange a homework assignment for you to complete. If you miss an entire day of training, you will be required to make up that day, before you can complete the New Worker Training Academy. If you miss the first day of any training, you will not be allowed to attend the rest of the training and you will need to contact Centralized Registration at mscd-cocwtraining@mscd.edu or 303.556.5205 or 1.888.569.1830 to reschedule.
If you need to make-up part of a training, please contact us at 303.871.2434 or email shannon.bigner@du.edu.
