Course Description:

Building off of the FAR Process and Practice training that county staff receive during their implementation of the FAR approach, this one-day training was developed to orient public child welfare supervisors and managers to supervision practices that support a paradigm shift in their work, and that of their workers, that supports specific family outcomes. This training will prepare supervisors to engage themselves and their workers in a solution-focused approach to supervision and consultation, particularly within FAR.

At the completion of this one-day training, participants will demonstrate the following competencies:

  • The participant is aware of how to use solution-focused practice within his or her supervisory practice with caseworkers.
  • The participant is aware of the personal practice values and assumptions he or she holds about the workers he or she supervises and how they may support or interfere with FAR and solution-focused practices.
  • The participant knows the three traditional functions or roles of a supervisor and how they intersect with strengths-based processes and FAR practice.
  • The participant knows the key elements of strengths-based supervision and the stages of solution-focused practice with caseworkers.
  • The participant understands the structure, use and content of solution-focused group supervision and case consultation processes within FAR.
