Course Description:
This one-day training was designed and is intended to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and ability to effectively engage children and youth within the FAR process. Building on the training and coaching caseworkers received for initial FAR implementation, this one-day training was developed to enhance the skills of public child welfare staff in meaningful engagement of children and youth, and to affirm their belief that inclusivity of the child and/or youth’s voice throughout the FAR process is essential to effective FAR practice and outcomes.

- The participant understands the benefits of, and challenges to, involving children/youth in the family assessment response case process. The participant appreciates the need to effectively involve the children and/or youth throughout the family assessment response case process.
- The participant is able to assess the level of the child and/or youth’s involvement in the family assessment case process.
- The participant is able to explore and engage with parents around the benefits of, and potential barriers to, inclusion of their children in family assessment response case process.
- The participant can effectively identify the child’s individual needs and preferences around communication based on his/her age and developmental abilities and can adjust their approach to utilize strategies from a menu of options.
