Making the Most of Supervision

Class Description:

This 6-hour workshop will show participants how to make the most out of the supervisory process through practical suggestions and strategies for supervision so the potential of supervision can be realized, thus improving outcomes to families, strengthening families, and ameliorating stress. Supervision is fundamental to child welfare work because of the magnitude of the decisions made, the emotionality of child welfare, and the complexity of the situations. Effective supervision depends upon a supervisor’s style and a supervisee’s ability to make his/her needs known, thus profoundly impacting the quality of casework. Supervision can be an opportunity to obtain expert guidance on cases, process workload stress, and grow personally and professionally. Yet, caseworkers receive little training or information on how to make the most of this process, so this training helps to rectify that by providing specific guidance for improving supervision.
