Using Psychological Assessment Information in Child Welfare Case Planning

Class Description:
This one-day Distance Learning Training prepares child welfare workers to make the best use of psychological testing information at key decision points.
Target Audience:
Intake Caseworkers, Ongoing Caseworkers, Case Aides, Supervisors, and Mental Health Providers.
Competencies:
- Understand the basic components and controversies about psychological evaluations.
- Understand the distinction between objective and subjective approaches to assessment.
- Gain experience in writing specific referral questions and developing specific referral hypotheses when requesting psychological evaluations.
- Understand the role that client preparation plays in psychological assessment.
- Identify some commonly used psychological tests and assessment approaches used with children and adolescents.
- Apply major concepts related to the assessment of children or adolescents to his/her own case material.
- Understand that there are certain criteria by which a psychological report can be evaluated in terms of its quality and clinical usefulness.
- Identify the basic structure of the major objective instruments for assessing psychopathology in adults.
- Learn different approaches to sharing information with clients.
- Apply major concepts related to assessment covered thus far to his/her own case material.
- Identify rapid assessment tools as an adjunct to psychological assessment and/or caseworker behavioral evaluation.
