Strategies for Parenting Challenging Children

Class Description:

This day and a half training will assist foster/adoptive parents to develop strategies for parenting emotionally disturbed or challenging children. Co-trained by a foster/adoptive parent and an experienced caseworker, participants will also learn skills to cope with the stresses of parenting challenging children.

 

Target Audience:

Foster parents, kinship care providers, adoptive parents, and interested child welfare professionals.

 

Competencies:
  • Understand the principles of good parenting
  • Understand the difference between behavior management and behavior modification
  • Understand how abuse and neglect impact brain development and child development
  • Understand the effects of prenatal substance exposure and mental illness on children
  • Understand the characteristics of successful foster parenting

Attendance is required on both days

This training is eligible for 12 continuing training hours.

 

Cost:

FREE for all Colorado County Foster Parents/Kinship Care Providers, and Colorado County Caseworkers.

$25.00 if you are with a Private Agency or an Adoptive Parent.
