Class Description:

A three-day workshop focusing on: interviewing children for alleged maltreatment; establishing protocol to minimize trauma, and reducing the need for multiple interviews. Developmentally appropriate interviewing techniques, designed to determine the child’s ability to understand truth/reality, and the use of anatomical drawings, floor plan drawings, and anatomical dolls to assist in interviews are presented.

 

Target Audience:

Caseworkers and police officers.

 

Prerequisites:

Computer Based Training; Using Colorado Trails for Child Welfare (more information on these trainings can be found at www.cocwtraining.com); Core I; Core II; Prerequisites do not apply to police officers.

 

Competencies:
  • Gather specific information through specialized interviewing strategies.
  • Employ directive play interviewing skills.
  • Improve credibility when giving court testimony related to casework findings.
