Class Description:
Fatherhood in Child Welfare is a powerful experiential learning activity. It is a simulation designed to incorporate various modes of learning: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. This training is intended to connect the head and heart of the participant by offering a deeper level of insight and understanding of the vital role all fathers play, one way or another, in their children’s lives. Fatherhood in Child Welfare will allow each participant to have a uniquely individual experience, which will build opportunities for powerful discussion and reflection, both as a group and individually. The afternoon session will include discussion of various topics including the state of fatherhood in general, risks of father absence, the reasons fathers disconnect from children, the importance of connection, involving fathers in case planning by overcoming barriers and biases, paternity issues, and intervening with mal-treating fathers.
Target Audience:
Caseworkers and community service providers.
