Class Description:

Preparing youth for foster care begins long before the youth turns 16 years old. This course will provide foster parents and workers useful information on how to prepare children in care for independent living. Designed for foster parents and workers who work with youngsters as young as 8 that will eventually emancipate from home or foster care.

 

Target Audience:

Independent living caseworkers, Chaffee workers, adolescent caseworkers, foster Parents, kinship care providers and adoptive parents.

 

Competencies:
  • Assess a youth’s emotional intelligence, and how to use this information to help them prepare for life after foster care.
  • Use everyday living situations to help youth to learn basic skills, including decision-making.
  • Find and utilize connections with people to increase the likelihood of permanence and stability in adulthood.
